Large infrastructure projects require planning for safe and efficient decommissioning. We help clients with projects including:
- Structural integrity analysis of weathered equipment,
- Specialist equipment design,
- Machine development,
- Safety case development,
- Fault studies for safety cases,
- Hazard identification and analysis, and
- Risk evaluation.

Nuclear Power Station Decommissioning Safety Case:
A nuclear decommissioning site is required to demonstrate that its safety and environmental risk is acceptable indefinitely. In practice, the safety case is revised every 10 years to recognise changes to the site, to safety practices and to legislation.
We were asked to provide the safety case for a nuclear power station which ceased generation 10 years previously. We carried out a survey of the site, including confirmation of the inventory of contaminated equipment. We then undertook a full review of the equipment, practices and policies in place to maintain the site in a safe condition. These were compared with the relevant legislation and industry best practice to determine whether there were any shortfalls to be addressed.
Using our report, the client was able to rectify a number of minor problems with their procedures and satisfy the regulator that the site would remain safe for a further 10 years.
